As a reminder, everyone is welcome to attend the course, but in order to take the RCT Exam for IICRC Certification, that is administered at the end of the course, the registrant must be currently certified in Carpet Cleaning Technician (CCT) or Commercial Carpet Maintenance Technician (CMT) AND Upholstery & Fabric Technician (UFT).



The IICRC Exam Fee of $50 per person is separate from the Registration Fee and payable to IICRC at the time of the exam.  



Course registrants are encouraged to bring rugs with them that need cleaning preferably 6' x 9' or smaller, but not larger than 8' x 10'.

Here’s all the important info:

Rug Cleaning Technician (RCT) - Instructors Ruth Travis and Jeff Bishop
This IICRC-RCT course teaches the student area rug identification and appropriate cleaning techniques and methods to professional cleaning, restoration and inspection service providers as well as others in related industries. It is one of the most “hands-on” courses offered to the cleaning industry as we set up a complete rug cleaning “plant” and really clean rugs.
Emphasis is placed on rug cleaning theory, practical application, hand's-on techniques, and understanding rug cleaning limitations.  Several rug cleaning methods including submersion, dry compound, surface and shampoo will be demonstrated in the class.

Urine decontamination, fringe cleaning, blocking and minor rug repairs will also be demonstrated by the instructors.  And students will have the opportunity to view, touch and inspect more than 150 different rugs (hand-knotted, hand-woven, hand-tufted, machine woven and tufted, and other types) including those made of wool, silk, viscose, cotton, jute, etc. . . . not just samples.  

CCT and UFT or CMT and UFT are pre-requisites to write the RCT test, however all are welcome to do the class itself.

Bonus: Students are encouraged to bring in rugs (up to 8’ x 10’) to be cleaned during the class.  We’ll clean them and the student can take them back and charge their customer. Many students have paid for their tuition this way! The last class we held, we cleaned 24 rugs (see attached photo).

Hey Dusty,



Just got back from the first three days of the rug masters class with Aaron and Ellen.  It was a blast and a wonderful learning experience.  Not only did we learn a ton from Aaron and Ellen, but we had a great time getting to know each other and how we can benefit each other’s business.  We are very grateful for the rug scholarship that you provided as an incentive to participate in this program. I got some great photos and videos to share with you on behalf of Aaron and Ellen.  They were grinning from ear to ear as well when they told me to send these to you as well!   We heard some great campfire stories while Merza waddled by and really enjoyed Ellen’s blast everything and ask questions later attitude.  (Must be a Texas thing).  I am looking forward to our return visit and will enjoy the self study and homework over the next several months.  



I’ll send or upload some photos when I get them all sorted out!

I just wanted to thank Aaron Groseclose for a terrific RCT class in Seattle last week, it was very helpful.

The IICRC recently approved the WoolSafe Fabric Care Specialist On-Line Training Course for two IICRC CECs.  According to Ruth Travis, WoolSafe's North American Director, Previously the course was only offered in a face-to-face format with limited availability to professional cleaners interested in learning more about wool and high-value wool carpet and rug cleaning.  Now students throughout the world will have the opportunity to choose to attend a course in person or study on-line.

Originally established in 1991 by the International Wool Secretariat (the Wool Bureau in North America) - the WOOLSAFE Organization launched an accreditation program for professional carpet cleaners in October of 1998.  The WOOLSAFE Certified Operators program was created in response to demand from the cleaning and carpet manufacturing industries and to raise the level of expertise in cleaning wool floor coverings.

The WoolSafe Certified Operator program now operates in Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, Germany and Greece. It is launching in North America as the WoolSafe? Fabric Care Specialist program.



The WoolSafe Fabric Care Specialist Training Course provides professional cleaners with a convenient and cost effective means for advancing their knowledge of wool-rich carpet, high-value rug and upholstery cleaning.  

Students are able to complete the course at their own pace from a home or office computer.  The course is intended to supplement training received in the IICRC-approved CCT, UFT and RCT certification courses, and it is approved for 2-IICRC CECs in the cleaning, restoration or inspection categories.

This course is divided into numerous sections or modules and includes subjects such as:

Each of the 33 modules is followed by self-evaluation multiple-choice questions, which are based on the information presented in the current module.  Students simply read each question and select the correct answer from the options provided.  The question is graded electronically for immediate feedback.  Once the course is successfully completed, students receive a completion certificate to send to the IICRC for two CECs.



At that time, the WoolSafe Fabric Care Specialists company is eligible to apply as a WoolSafe Approved Service Provider.  





If accepted, the Service Provider?s contact information is listed on the International Registry at http://www.woolsafe.org and it has permission to use the WoolSafe Fabric Care Specialist Mark in all company promotional programs.
