"some people take offense AS IF you were trying to point out how dirty their home is... and take it as an insult..."
Yes, there are some of these people, so you should be careful approaching people because people have different mode. |

A big welcome to the rughub. I am sure you will find lots of help here for your rug cleaning. It was good to chat with you earlier on the phone. Here is the infffor upcoming rug classes!
Unfortunately there will not be any rug classes in Texas this year, however the rug master class will be happening again next spring in Dallas.
Here is a link to the on-line WoolSafe class, plus the awesome hands-on, boots-on rug class in Alabama for this November.. btw this one most certainly worth traveling to, just make sure you register now as the seats will sell out fast.

Hello, and thank you for having me. My name is Betsy, and I am the owner of Two Mops In The Bucket Cleaning Services. My business is still in it's infancy, I started it about 9 months ago, here in Corpus Christi, and am enjoying both the ups and downs of owning my own business. That, along with being the mother of two children under 3yrs old, has kept me VERY busy this year! I look forward to any suggestions anyone may have for me on any subject of relevance (including NOT going insane). Thank you again, I am looking forward to being a part of your group. |

We dump ours to sewerage but have a grease trap in line which takes out much of the solids.

| Talk to your septice pump out guy. Just had mine done at the house - he said it was really full (house only). I was bitchin about the Girls taking loooong showers. He said tha the water was not a problem only the solids. Most of what we dump is water. You could put a seperate "grey water" basin in like some newer homes do for the washing machines etc. You just might have to pump your septic out more often than normal. |

Rug can be cleaned by regular vacuuming. Vacuuming your area rug regularly helps to keep your home clean and allergy free. Be sure to rinse any excess detergent when cleaning and don’t use a strong solution. Be sure to put your area rug pad back in place to help protect it from wear and tear. The rug pad assists with keeping furniture in place and prevents anyone from slipping on it. Every few months rotate your area rug to prevent any further deterioration that foot traffic can cause.

I believe I would be concerned about residues, but I certainly am not a guru on this one as I have never tried it.

maybe your Q should be be more on the how instead of the products??
I am grateful to a ruggie who lives just south of Dusty that showed me a contraption that almost makes fringes fun and I use very little chem at all now. It does require a dry tower of sorts however. I now pressure wash them very successfully.
I often use BP's Boost all buff all shampoo formula

What does everyone use for labelling their rugs?
I am looking at Tyvak which comes in various versions - I would assume flexible or soft would be the most suitable for our application. Also how do you attach the labels to the rugs - glue, staple or sew? If glueing - what sort of glue?

Hi
If you are talking about cleaning cotton fringes:
the best is warm H2O called also water and soap!!!(also non ionic detergent is good) rinse with 5% acetic acid (white vinegar) then rinse with H2O(normal water)
Bleaching is another story
AND search this wonderful forum

| Looking for a good fringe cleaner, I have tried MB fringe bleach, and Chem-max's products, not always thrilled with the results. Does anyone make their own concoction? I have seen on the forums people talking about some bleach with water, but I thought bleach was a no-no. |

| does anyone use fabric softener on rugs after cleaning them? I have heard of some people doing this, is that recommended, or even safe for the rugs? |

Yes
how it was washed by chemicals solvents ? dried by heat ( hot air !
The central design of trellies is a perfect circle so I accept that it was round
be sure about the canvas material - be sure it is not a plastic canvas
in China it is made of hemp canvas for rugs (stiffer than linen).
after you are sure it is hemp cut the stitches of the folded border (first take away the backing if there is one)
design a round circle on a piece of flat wood bigger than the size of 140x140 cm(you can cover by plastic the wood surface) and prepare lots of small nails(2 cm is okay) and a hammer now nail the rug face down (it is very flexible, after you are done, wet the back of the rug and wait til it is dry
try to nail the border of the design close to the line of the circle( you can easiley find the size of the diameter of the original round rug)
count from the center of trellies 10 mesh=one inch
then sew the border and it is a perfect circle!
good luck

| The customer said it was cleaned by someone else and has lost it shape, which was round. The dimensions of the rug are now 105 X 90. The rug looks like it is either needle point or hand wooven. My questions are: Is there any way to take it back to its original form? Would it also help if I trim the fray's? Or is this rug to delicate to do this too? I am going to have to post 4 other pictures which I can't do on here so the first picture is with this message. |

Hi the rug if from Iran, the province of Isfahan, and when you take a closer look at the back you can see that the carpet was made outside of the city of Isfahan an area called Najafabad. You must allways refere to this carpet as a Najafabad carpet and not Isfahan. Even though they share the same design and dye, the Isfahan rugs are much finer woven. |

Hi Guys, Need some help with id of the below rug

Jam,
I want to thank you for sharing your knowlege and expertise. I followed your instructions and was able to match the fringe with the customers other rugs without any problems. I preformed a test on some cotton material before application to the kilim and fringe so I could get close dilution for color match. When you said a small portion, you weren't joking. The smallest quanity of Potasium permanganate I was able to purchase on short notice was (seven pounds), and I used less than a gram to complete the work.
PS The fringe looks better than the photo does.
Thanks again, and I look forward to learn more from you. Art Thomas http://www.steamsweepers.com/ |
